At the Institute for the Protection of Maritime Infrastructures in Bremerhaven, we research and develop innovative solutions to strengthen the resilience of maritime infrastructures and make them adaptable, safe and sustainable. In close cooperation with partners from research, industry and other maritime security stakeholders, we combine technological innovation with practical expertise and offer you the opportunity to work on pioneering projects.
What to expect
Research and development of optical methods and sensor systems for improving visibility in surface and underwater applications
You will develop innovative optical methods and opto-electronic sensor systems to improve visibility above and under water. You will conduct research of photonic methods such as range-gating, holographic and interferometric approaches and the use of polarimetric information. Your field of activity includes theoretical and numerical preparatory work as well as experiments in the laboratory and validation in the field. You will analyse measurement data, interpret the results and share them with the scientific research community through publications and international conference contributions.
The position offers you an exciting opportunity for your professional development, as well as support if you wish to pursue a PhD. Your work will contribute to the development of modern sensor technologies, which – in the context of an increasingly complex security and geopolitical situation - are gaining in importance for maritime reconnaissance, protection and technological sovereignty.
Your tasks
- development of innovative methods and sensor systems for improving visibility above and below water (simulation/modelling, experiments, implementation, field tests)
- research of holographic and interferometric approaches for coherence gating and combination with existing range-gating sensors for long ranges
- research and testing in a maritime environment
- data analysis and publication of the research results
Your profile
- completed scientific university degree (Master/Diploma) in natural sciences or engineering (e.g. physics, photonics), or other fields of study relevant to the job
- experience in one or more of the following fields: Optronics, optoelectronics, optical design, laser physics, holography, interferometry, LiDAR
- experience in independently conducting laboratory experiments and analysing measurement data
- willingness and ability for experimental testing of methods and systems in the field and at sea
- programming skills (e.g. Python, C++)
- driving licence (class B)
- very good written and spoken English
We look forward to getting to know you!
