At the Institute for the Protection of Maritime Infrastructures in Bremerhaven, we research and develop innovative solutions to strengthen the resilience of maritime infrastructures and to make them adaptable, secure, and sustainable. In close collaboration with partners from research, industry, and other stakeholders in maritime security, we combine technological innovation with practical expertise, offering you the opportunity to contribute to future-oriented projects.

 

What to expect

During your employment you will be working on a project that combines artificial intelligence, computer vision and maritime technology. You will work with vision foundation models, object detection, image segmentation and predictive uncertainty quantification. Depending on your interests and study program, the work can also provide a strong basis for a Bachelor's or Master's thesis.
We are looking for a person who will grow with us and will fit to our international, interdisciplinary .

 

Your tasks

  • Develop and evaluate state-of-the-art AI methods for real-world maritime video
  • Implement and benchmark approaches for object detection, segmentation and uncertainty quantification
  • Analyze how well these methods perform under challenging maritime conditions

 

Your profile

  • Currently enrolled student in a university or in a university of applied science in a relevant field
  • Python skills and an interest in AI and computer vision
  • Experience with PyTorch, computer vision algorithms and Linux are an advantage
  • Reasonable spoken and written skills in English – B2 level or higher
