The DLR Institute of Software Technology sees software as a catalyst for research and innovation. As experts in software, we research and develop cutting-edge solutions in all application areas of DLR.

Our areas of competence include reliable and safety-critical software systems, artificial intelligence, high-performance computing and quantum computing, human-system interaction and visualisation, software and systems engineering as well as digital platforms and digital twins.

What to expect

 

We're looking for experienced software engineers to join our Flight Software department, where we develop reliable and efficient onboard software for space missions. As a team of researchers and aerospace engineers, we work together to create high-quality software that meets the unique challenges of space exploration.

Our current projects include supporting the International Space Station (ISS), avionics software for rockets, satellite development, rover missions, and maintaining the Galileo navigation system. Our focus areas include real-time operating systems, driver development, middleware, command and data handling systems, attitude control and navigation, onboard data processing, and reconfigurable distributed onboard computers.

We're looking for motivated team players who can work collaboratively across departmental boundaries to tackle complex tasks. If you have a passion for software engineering for embedded systems, a strong work ethic, and a desire to contribute to the success of space missions, we'd like to hear from you!

 

Your tasks

 

  •     Research and develop innovative software engineering methods for safety-critical onboard software
  •     Design and implement software architectures for complex mission-critical systems
  •     Evaluate and share research findings through international conferences, scientific journals, and other channels

Your profile

 

  •     Completed scientific university degree (Master/Diploma Uni) in computer science (e.g. computer engineering) or other degree programmes relevant to the job
  •     Experience in software programming of embedded systems under Linux and/or real-time operating systems such as RTEMS
  •     Several years of experience in embedded systems software programming with C/C++
  •     Knowledge of software engineering methods such as continuous integration, Git, etc.
  •     Very good knowledge of English (good knowledge of German is helpful)
  •     Experience in hardware driver development
