The Institute of Low Carbon Industrial Processes at DLR (German Aerospace Center) expands the existing portfolio of DLR’s energy research and places a strong emphasis on the decarbonization of industrial processes. The focus lies on industries such as paper, brick production, automotive, steel, and food manufacturing, as well as the transformation of conventional coal-fired power plants into sustainable, low-carbon energy suppliers.
What to expect
Within the Department of Simulation and Virtual Design, research focuses on transitioning fossil-based industrial processes toward climate-neutral production. This includes identifying efficient pathways to reduce carbon emissions while considering technological feasibility and economic aspects.
A particular area of interest is the development of decarbonization strategies for harbor areas, where industries are densely concentrated and offer unique opportunities for energy efficiency and emission reductions.
