The DLR Institute of Communications and Navigation is dedicated to mission-oriented research in selected areas of communications and navigation. Its work ranges from the theoretical foundations to the demonstration of new procedures and systems in a real environment and is embedded in DLR's Space, Aeronautics, Transport, Security and Digitalization programs. The Nautical Systems department develops and tests new procedures and technologies for shore-based and on-board support in ship navigation.
What to expect
As part of this, the Maritime Services working group focuses on alternative terrestrial navigation systems that complement global navigation satellite systems and enable navigation even under disturbed conditions. We are developing the maritime navigation system R-Mode and the appropriate receiver technology to meet the needs of maritime service providers and users.
As far as it is compatible with our operational procedures, we offer you the opportunity to carry out your work under the conditions of mobile working. In addition, you can organise your working hours flexibly, provided that you work during core working hours.
Your tasks
• development of radio-based alternative methods for maritime navigation
• analysing the performance of combined satellite and land-based radio navigation systems
• selection, development, implementation and validation of algorithms for data fusion of satellite and land-based radio navigation systems
• preparation, implementation, evaluation and documentation of measurement campaigns
Your profile
• completed scientific university degree (Master's degree) in physics, mathematics, electrical engineering, geodesy or other degree programmes relevant to the job
• experience in at least one of the two fields of radio navigation or signal processing
• experience of working with Software Defined Radio (SDR) in the programming languages Python and C++
• practical experience in the publication of scientific results
• independent, creative and goal-orientated way of working with analytical skills to penetrate facts and problems, as well as willingness to work in a team
• ability to carry out business trips
• good knowledge of written and spoken German and English
Remuneration is up to the German TVöD 13 depending on qualifications and assigned tasks.
