The Institute of Communications and Navigation, with sites in Oberpfaffenhofen and Neustrelitz, is dedicated to mission-oriented research in selcted areas of communications and navigation. These are embedded in the DLR programmes on space, aviation, transport and security.
What to expect
The Navigation Department develops methods and systems for interference-resistant satellite navigation and communication, enabling high-precision positioning and wireless broadband data transmission, for example via satellite. The “Antenna Systems” research group is involved in the development of antennas for the next generation of satellite navigation and communication systems. For future satellite and terminal antennas used in satellite navigation for interference-free and highly accurate positioning and in communications for broadband data transmission, technologies must be designed and contributions made to improve and expand surveying methods. Corresponding laboratory prototypes for validation are to be built and tested in demonstrations.
Your tasks
- Design and development of new antennas and antenna systems for satellite communication and navigation
- Analysis, critical evaluation and verification of the electromagnetic properties of antennas
- Improvement and expansion of calculation methods and antenna measurement techniques through the development of corresponding software programs
- Addressing scientifically challenging questions related to the aforementioned field of antenna technologies within the framework of research projects
- Planning and execution of field tests and demonstrations, simulation of the developed systems, and verification following evaluation of the measurement results
- Publication and presentation of research results in international journals and at conferences
Your profile
- A completed university degree (Master’s or Bachelor’s) in engineering (e.g., electrical engineering, communications engineering, information technology) or natural sciences (e.g., physics) or other fields relevant to the position
- Strong knowledge in the field of high-frequency, microwave and communications engineering
- Strong knowledge and work experience (at least 2 years) in the design and calculation of antennas
- Knowledge of antenna and RF measurement technology
- Strong knowledge and work experience in the development of electronic circuit boards (PCBs) for RF
- Strong programming skills in C++ and MATLAB
- Good English language skills
Remuneration depends on qualifications and job assignment up to pay grad 13 TVöD.
