Hint: Security clearance as well as the willingness to security clearance pursuant to §§ 8 ff. Security Clearance Act (SÜG) is a condition for employment at DLR
DLR's Responsive Space Cluster Competence Centre (RSC³) in Trauen is a unique research facility in Germany that addresses in a holistic way the topic of Responsive Space. This exciting field of research deals with the question of how to respond faster, more flexibly and securely in space with the goal of increasing the overall resilience of critical infrastructures in space. To this end, innovative concepts and technologies are analyzed, developed and demonstrated at the RSC³.
What to expact
Would you like to work in an interactive, collaborative and agile team? Does the prospect of designing, implementing and operating a modern ground segment for controlling small satellites spark your interest? Then you should join our diverse and motivated team within the Competence Centre for Rapid Satellite Deployment, which has set itself the goal of promoting the sustainable use of space and thus shaping a secure future.
Within the Ground Segment department, you will help design a secure, agile and independent ground system. Specifically, you will develop a satellite control system, including the associated software elements, and apply these in demonstration missions with the aim of decentralising and automating mission operations.
Your tasks
- You will analyse and design technologies for decentralised satellite ground systems.
- You will develop concepts and models for sub-components (e.g. network architectures, visualisation tools, planning and simulation tools), with the particular aim of achieving a high-performance, integrated approach to satellite control.
- You will operate satellites (CubeSat missions), i.e. you will be responsible for
- Monitoring of satellite flyovers above ground stations
- Commanding the satellites
- Reporting of anomalies to the relevant control centre
- Assistance with the analysis of flight parameters and system faults
- You will participate in research and development projects as part of national and international research initiatives.
- By organising and running your own workshops and information events, you will promote your work to potential partners in research and industry.
Your profile
- Completed university degree (Diploma/Master’s) in engineering (aerospace, mechanical engineering or similar) or a comparable qualification.
- Initial professional experience, preferably partly in a coordinating or technical leadership role (e.g. project coordination, supervision of students, flight director), in the implementation of small satellite or CubeSat missions.
- Knowledge of the design and implementation of satellite ground systems or systems of comparable complexity (e.g. IT networks, power grids, logistics chains, process plants, etc.), ideally with experience in microwave (UHF or S-band) communication
- Proficiency in programming languages (e.g. Python, LabVIEW, C) and MS Office.
- Experience in project work (planning, schedule and sub-budget control), basic knowledge of risk management, ability to produce technical and project reports.
- Ability to provide technical guidance to students/interns, ability to work in a team, clear communication with internal and external partners.
- willingness to travel on business and work outside normal working hours
- Very good German and good English skills (written and spoken).
Remuneration will be paid up to pay group 13 TVöD depending on qualifications and tasks assigned.
We look forward to getting to know you!
