The Space Flight Operations and Astronaut Training Department is the central institution for German space activities – from satellite missions for Earth observation, communication and space security, through to manned spaceflight, high-altitude research and exploration. We also work on innovative technologies to ensure we can master even the most challenging space projects of the future
What you can expect
The Astronaut Training Department is fully integrated into the EAC team (European Astronaut Centre Team of the European Space Agency, ESA) under a cooperative agreement between DLR e.V. and ESA. The EAC team supports the three core areas of astronaut management, training and medical care, as well as the operation of the ISS ground segment at the EAC. The role will be based in the EAC IT Team, which (in accordance with ESA guidelines) fulfils several roles within ESA’s complex ISS (International Space Station) programme. Following an induction period, your responsibilities will include the following:
Your responsibilities
- IT security within the ground segment of the LUNA lunar simulation hall and development of the security concept
- Primary responsibility for the secure operation, further development and modernisation of the LUNA ground segment throughout the entire lifecycle of system and user access to the associated services and project resources
- Carrying out and documenting incident responses, as well as rectifying or mitigating vulnerabilities
- Analysis, investigation and assessment of incidents
- (Further) development of the network infrastructure and ensuring the implementation of the security concept in LUNA campaign operations
- Integration of LUNA elements and campaign experiments into the LUNA IT and network infrastructure in collaboration with international partners and LUNA element managers
- Administration, definition, implementation and further development of the LUNA IT and network infrastructure during the set-up phase and campaign operations
What you bring to the role
- A completed university degree (Master’s/Diploma) in engineering (e.g. aerospace engineering, etc.) or the natural sciences (e.g. physics, etc.) or other degree programmes relevant to the role, such as computer science
- Extensive experience with IT security systems and the implementation of ISO 27001 and/or BSI Standard 200-1/2
- Extensive experience in at least two of the following three areas:
- Qualification as a network administrator (e.g. Cisco, firewall configuration, network services, OpenVPN)
- Experience in system administration (e.g. Linux, Apache, SSH, SFTP, RADIUS)
- Knowledge of software and systems engineering when working with scripting languages (e.g. Linux, Python, Perl, Ruby)
- Willingness to work shifts and be on call
Remuneration is based on qualifications and assigned duties, up to pay grade 14 of the TVöD Bund (Federal Civil Service Pay Scale).
