Enter the fascinating world of the German Aerospace Center (Deutsches Zentrum für Luft- und Raumfahrt e. V.; DLR) and help shape the future through research and innovation! We offer an exciting and inspiring working environment driven by the expertise and curiosity of our 12,000 employees from 100 nations and our unique infrastructure. Together, we develop sustainable technologies and thus contribute to finding solutions to global challenges. Would you like to join us in addressing this major future challenge? Then this is your place!

The Institute for Future Fuels helps make renewable resources available and thus replace fossil resources. We develop solutions for producing hydrogen and fuels cost-effectively on an industrial scale from the raw materials water, CO₂, and nitrogen, using renewable energy.

What to expect

With our international and multidisciplinary team, we investigate heat-carrier-based syntheses of chemical energy carriers. We use heat transfer fluids for thermal process control to produce energy carriers or necessary feedstocks as efficiently and continuously as possible. At the same time, heat transfer fluids serve as an interface for transferring thermal energy between chemical reactors and solar thermal systems, renewable electric heaters, and thermal energy storage systems. As a result, heat transfer fluid-based syntheses enable us to create production systems capable of adapting to varying loads.
As part of our team, you will contribute to conducting high-temperature experiments in the fouling simulator test bench of our Mobile Pump and Heat Transfer Fluid test facility (MoPuW). This includes operation monitoring as well as sampling hot oil and documenting and collecting fouling deposits on heat transfer surfaces. You will also measure, characterize and document selected properties of the oil and fouling deposits at the facility and in the laboratory using established protocols.

Your tasks

• Monitor operation of the fouling simulator during experiments
• Sample and analyze oil to estimate solids concentration and selected oil properties
• Sample and analyze fouling material to estimate selected properties
• Document, report and evaluate oil and fouling sampling results
• Assist in implementation of process upgrades

Your profile

• You are pursuing a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering, process engineering, mechanical engineering,
or a comparable field with good results
• Interest in heat transfer fluid process technology
• Basic laboratory experience, eagerness to learn and quick comprehension
• Ability to work independently and in a structured manner
• Very good written and spoken English skills
• Enjoyment of teamwork

Remuneration is up to the German TVöD 3 depending on qualifications and assigned tasks.

The main site is in Jülich. However, work is also carried out at the Cologne-Porz site, due to the laboratories located there.
