The Institute of Robotics and Mechatronics develops robots that enable people to interact with the environment more efficiently, effectively and safely. The robots are designed to work in environments that are inaccessible or dangerous for humans, but also to support and relieve people at work and in everyday life.

What to expect

In the Embedded and Distributed Systems group of the Department of Autonomy and Remote Programming at the Institute of Robotics and Mechatronics, software components are developed that enable scientists at the institute to work with robot systems on a level abstracted from the hardware. These include, for example, the provision of real-time operating systems, device drivers and interprocess communication via middleware. This software infrastructure, as well as some of the capabilities, are also repeatedly required in space projects.

Your tasks

  • Development, implementation and testing of hardware abstraction interfaces for peripheral devices in robotics
  • Designing and integrating applications into the hardware abstraction framework - from conception to the test phase
  • Connecting applications to the hardware layer via standardised APIs and middleware
  • Documentation of the interfaces, creation of examples and expansion of the developer documentation
  • Testing and validation of implementations in real application scenarios (e.g. in robot systems or industrial test environments)

Your profil

  • a university degree (Master's degree / university diploma) in engineering (e.g. specialising in robotics, electrical engineering), computer science or other relevant degree courses for the job
  • Several years of professional experience in software development for embedded realtime systems
  • Experience in the management of interdisciplinary software projects
  • Knowledge of Linux system programming (kernel module development, device drivers)
  • Programming skills in Python, C/C++ and Matlab/Simulink
  • Knowledge of agile software development, e.g. SCRU
  • Very good written and spoken English skills

Remuneration will be paid up to pay group 13 TVöD depending on qualifications and tasks assigned.
