The Group Earth Observation and Science in GSOC's Mission Operations department operates satellites that are mostly in low Earth orbit and to which there is no continuous contact. The primary task here is to monitor the satellites during a ground station contact, download recorded telemetry and upload timetagged commands covering at least the next ground station contact. This also includes the immediate reaction to space and ground related anomalies and spacecraft emergencies, so that a 24/7 on-call service by specially trained personnel may be necessary.

You will be part of the operations teams of various missions, each consisting of several employees who share the tasks that arise (e.g. daily business, on-call duty, 24/7 shift operation during sensitive project phases). Complex tasks are handled as a team thereby faciliting a deputy concept.
Your tasks
- development of operational concepts for satellite operation in low earth orbit (e.g. TerraSAR-X/TanDEM-X)

- willingness to be on call regularly and to work outside regular working hours or shifts, e.g. during LEOP/campaigns
- cross-project tasks
Your profile
- completed scientific university degree (Master / Diploma Uni) in engineering (e.g. aerospace engineering) or natural sciences (e.g. physics, chemistry, mathematics) or other degree programmes relevant to the job, such as computer science
