The Institute of Remote Sensing Methodology (MF) is a DLR institute with sites in Oberpfaffenhofen near Munich, Berlin-Adlershof and Neustrelitz in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. Together with the German Remote Sensing Data Centre (DFD), the institute forms the Earth Observation Centre (EOC), the centre of excellence for Earth observation in Germany.
What to expect
The Institute of Remote Sensing Methodology, in collaboration with international partners, is involved in expanding and improving the spectroscopic database for atmospheric trace gases. To this end, its Atmospheric Spectroscopy department has for many years operated a reference laboratory of this kind, which ranks among the world’s leading facilities of its sort. A high-resolution Bruker IFS 125HR Fourier transform spectrometer, serving as the core measurement instrument, is used there to analyse gas mixtures under defined pressure and temperature conditions.
Your responsibilities
- Conducting literature reviews on existing methods for improving the spectroscopic database for atmospheric trace gases
- User-oriented assessment of future scientific requirements for spectroscopic data for remote sensing of the atmosphere
- Designing, preparing and carrying out scientific analyses and interpretations of laboratory spectroscopic measurements
- Carrying out scientific work to adapt and expand the laboratory infrastructure to meet project-specific requirements
- Acquiring studies and projects
- Supervision of PhD theses and student projects
- Publication and presentation of scientific results at international conferences relevant to spectroscopy and remote sensing
What you bring to the role
- A completed university degree (university diploma/Master’s) in the natural sciences (e.g. physics, chemistry) or other degree programmes relevant to the role
- A completed PhD, e.g. in the field of gas-phase spectroscopy
- In-depth knowledge and practical experience in the field of gas-phase spectroscopy or optical measurement technology
- Practical experience in software development and programming (e.g. Python, C++)
- Ability to carry out independent scientific work in an international environment
- Very good command of English
Remuneration will be in accordance with pay scale 14 of the TVöD, depending on qualifications and the scope of duties.
We look forward to getting to know you!
