The Institute of Communications and Navigation, with sites in Oberpfaffenhofen and Neustrelitz, is dedicated to mission-oriented research in selected areas of communications and navigation. These are embedded in the DLR programmes on space, aviation, transport and security.
What to expect
The institute develops systems and procedures for the efficient and robust aeronautical navigation of the future. Satellite navigation-based systems for approach guidance, automatic precision landings in bad weather conditions and ground guidance, where the robustness and reliability, i.e. the integrity of position determination, are of great importance and at the same time particularly challenging. In order to be able to fulfil the necessary high integraty requirements with local augmentation systems, multi-frequency multi-constellation GBAS (Ground Based Augmentation Systems) procedures are to be developed, which in future will simultaneously process and jointly evaluate navigation signals from different GNSS constellations from different frequency bands. Additional sensors (e.g. inertial sensors, camera) and external information (e.g. space weather) are to be integrated as required.
Your tasks
- Conceptualization and performance assessment of new processing techniques for multi-frequency multi-constellation GBAS
- in-depth analysis of critical error sources affecting GNSS-based positioning in the GBAS context
- Development of integrity concepts for multi-constellation scenarios, in particular conceptualization and analysis of multi-frequency multi-constellation GBAS procedures
- Design and development of innovative methods for applying GBAS concepts to new application areas
- Development of innovative methods to improve GBAS performance by incorporating external space weather information
- Validation of the developments through measurement campaigns and simulations
- Project management and acquisition work in the research field
Your Qualifications
- Completed scientific university degree (Master's/Diploma Uni) in engineering sciences (e.g. in electrical engineering, aerospace engineering, etc.) or other degree programs relevant to the job degree programs with a minimum grade of "good" and a doctorate in one of the above fields
- extensive knowledge of mathematics and statistics for use in navigation and positioning
- in-depth knowledge and years of professional experience in the field of satellite navigation and GBAS (Ground-Based Augmentation System) and in the monitoring of ionospheric errors in GNSS
- very good knowledge of signal processing techniques and extended experience in the area of integrity for GNSS
- good knowledge of the programming languages C/C++, Python and Matlab
- good project management skills and many years of experience in research projects
- very good knowledge of English (business fluent)
Remuneration is up to the German TVöD 14 depending on qualifications and assigned tasks
