The Remote Sensing Technology Institute (IMF) is an institute of the German Aerospace Center DLR. It is located in Oberpfaffenhofen (near Munich), Berlin-Adlershof, Neustrelitz (Mecklenburg-Vorpommern) as well as an office in Bremen. IMF and the German Remote Sensing Data Center (DFD) together comprise the Earth Observation Center EOC – a center of competence for earth observation in Germany.
What to expect
The EO Data Science department of the Remote Sensing Technology Institute develops modern signal processing and AI methods for current and future Earth observation missions. The tasks include scientific research in the field of Artificial Intelligence for Earth observation as well as the initiation, implementation and management of scientific and innovative projects. The tasks to be worked on consist on the one hand in own scientific research on the implementation of earth observation use cases on integrated quantum computers. On the other hand, this is to be implemented in the EU-funded EUROHPCQ integration project “LUMI-Q”. In this project, a quantum computer will be connected to the LUMI data center in Finland and other data ceters across Europe. We will test and further develop the software created during the HPC-QC integration for the use cases we have developed in the field of Earth observation.
Your tasks
- creation of requirements analysis as well as (further) development and experimental analysis of Quantum Machine Learning (QML) algorithms and their application to EO data
- simulation and implementation of quantum algorithms on high-performance computing systems such as terrabyte
- scientific project work in the EUROHPCQ integration project “LUMI-Q”
- assumption of scientific project management and project responsibility
- preparation of the project report, in particular summarizing the research results and the goals achieved
- presentation and discussion of the research results at conferences, meetings, etc. at national and international level
- publication of the research results in suitable publications
Your profile
- completed university degree in natural sciences (e.g. mathematics, physics) or computer sciences (e.g. computer science, quantum informatics) or related field and, if applicable, a doctoral degree
- several years of experience in the fields of quantum computing (QC) and machine learning (ML)
- several years of experience in working with quantum software and hardware
- good programming skills in a development language (C/C++ or Python)
- several years of experience in writing, presenting and presenting scientific papers
- experience in the field of geoinformatics, remote sensing or earth system modeling
- knowledge in the field of High-Performance Computing (HPC)
We look forward to getting to know you!
