The Group Earth Observation and Science in GSOC's Mission Operations department operates satellites that are mostly in low Earth orbit and to which there is no continuous contact. The primary task here is to monitor the satellites during a ground station contact, download recorded telemetry and upload timetagged commands covering at least the next ground station contact. This also includes the immediate reaction to space and ground related anomalies and spacecraft emergencies, so that a 24/7 on-call service by specially trained personnel may be necessary.
What to expect
As a Subsystem engineer (f/m/d) in the EBW group at GSOC, you will be responsible for the operation of satellite missions and the preparation of new missions in a multi-mission context and will be part of the operations teams (e.g. Subsystem engineer (f/m/d) at AOCS TerraSAR-X/TanDEM-X) of various missions, each consisting of several employees who share the tasks that arise (e.g. daily business, on-call duty, 24/7 shift operation during sensitive project phases).
Your tasks
- preparation, validation and execution of operational task within the specific satellite subsystem (e.g. AOCS)
- analysis of telemetry data, evaluation of the situation and preparation of counter measures in case of subsystem anomalies
- support in designing and validating new operational concepts
- willingness to be on call regularly and to work outside regular working hours or shifts, e.g. during LEOP/campaigns
Your profile
- completed scientific university degree (Master / Diploma Uni) in engineering (e.g. aerospace engineering) or natural sciences (e.g. mathematics, physics, chemistry) or other degree programmes relevant to the job
- basic knowledge of Python or other programming languages used for data analysis
- very good knowledge of English (written and spoken) and knowledge of German (written and spoken)
- ability to work under time pressure, e.g. during an intensive operational phase (LEOP)
- ability to quickly grasp and clearly present scientific and technical issues
- good team work skills
Remuneration is up to the German TVöD 13 depending on qualifications and assigned tasks.
We look forward to getting to know you!
