The Institut for the Protection of Terrestrial Infrastructures aims to ensure the stable supply of society. Digital twins enable monitoring and response to crises and attacks as well as analysis and optimzation of the resilience of terrestrial infrastructures.

What you can expect:

The creation of digital twins for infrastructures is a complex process that takes a long time and causes high costs due to manual modelling work. In order to simplify this and make the generation more efficient, this process is to be automated. Electrical systems are an essential component of many infrastructures and their failure can have serious consequences.

AI-based methods are to be used as part of the automation process to convert existing information from electrical plans and data sheets into a digitally usable, structured form.

Your tasks are:

  • Familiarisation and literature research for image-to-graph methods and digitisation of technical plans
  • Creation and processing of (synthetic) data sets for plan detection
  • Implementation and training of deep learning algorithms for extracting information from electrical circuit diagrams
  • Comparison of state-of-the-art transformer models with conventional deep learning frameworks
  • Acquisition, scientific analysis and presentation of the research result

Minimum qualification:

  • Currently enrolled in a degree programme in computer science, mechatronics, electrical engineering or a related field

  • Willingness to familirise yourself with complex topics

  • Basic knowledge in the field of machine learning

  • Good knowledge of programming with Python

  • Ability to work independently and good communication and teamwork skills

  • Knowledge of deep learning, ideally in the field of computer vision

  • Knowledge of common Python libraries such as PyTorch, OpenCV

We offer

DLR stands for diversity, appreciation and equality for all people. We promote independent work and the individual development of our employees both personally and professionally.
