Enter the fascinating world of the German Aerospace Center (Deutsches Zentrum für Luft- und Raumfahrt e. V.; DLR) and help shape the future through research and innovation! We offer an exciting and inspiring working environment driven by the expertise and curiosity of our 11,000 employees from 100 nations and our unique infrastructure. Together, we develop sustainable technologies and thus contribute to finding solutions to global challenges. Would you like to join us in addressing this major future challenge? Then this is your place!

The Institute of Networked Energy Systems pursues the overarching goal of making the energy transition in the economy and society successful through targeted research. To this end, transformation strategies and technical solutions are developed that enable efficient and system-beneficial coupling of the electricity, heating, transport and industrial sectors. Together with partners from industry and research, the focus is on developing a holistic understanding of the system and effective system solutions. As a result, the institute and its approximately 190 employees - including around 150 scientists - address two key transfer levels: Technology transfer through technical solutions and knowledge transfer with the results of in-house developed modelling and analysis tools.

Would you like to work in an interactive, collaborative and international team? Are you interested in the new and further development of renewable energy technologies and the analysis of energy system modelling, particularly with regard to system resilience?

What awaits you

The Energy System Technology department focuses on the interaction between system-relevant energy technologies within decentralised networked structures. In the distribution grid in particular, we are striving for new architectures for the energy systems of the future that ensure robust grid operation even under the influence of fluctuating feeders.

The Energy Management research group develops methods and strategies to optimise the operation and design of future energy systems hand in hand.

The EmFreiHafen project focuses on developing transformation paths for harbours and industrial properties.

Your tasks

  • You will support the team in developing an assessment approach for resilience in energy system optimisation.

  • You will play a key role in the modelling and evaluation of energy systems. Your particular focus will be on the topic of resilience.

  • You will independently analyse various systems and their resilience. In this way, you will contribute to the development of sustainable energy systems.

  • You will be part of a dedicated team in which collaboration, knowledge sharing and creative solutions are particularly important.

What you bring with you

  • You are currently studying for a Master's degree or on a technical or scientific degree programme.
  • You have already gained initial experience with energy systems and their modelling.
  • You already have a good knowledge of Python and do not hesitate to use it.
  • You are interested in modelling energy systems and want to actively contribute to the decarbonisation of the future.

  • Your profile is rounded off by a good command of German and English.

We offer

DLR stands for diversity, appreciation and equality for all people. We promote independent work and the individual development of our employees both personally and professionally. To this end, we offer numerous training and development opportunities. Equal opportunities are of particular importance to us, which is why we want to increase the proportion of women in science and management in particular. Applicants with severe disabilities will be given preference if they are qualified.

We look forward to getting to know you!
