The Institute of Structures and Design works on the development and optimization of materials and their processing and joining technologies, as well as new design approaches and the construction of full-scale demonstrators. Naturally, testing and validation in specialized test facilities and flight trials are also part of the daily work. The focus is on fiber-ceramic, polymer, and hybrid composite materials. The research of new multidisciplinary design tools and digital models forms the basis for hardware development.
What to expect
The position is based at the Institute of Structures and Design and is assigned to the Department of Ceramic Composites and Structures. The department primarily focuses on the development of complex lightweight structures made from ceramic composite materials for applications outside the aerospace sector. The work is particularly concentrated on the development of new manufacturing technologies, coating methods, and testing procedures for CMC structures used in engines, missiles, energy systems, and tribologically highly stressed components.
The developments are mainly oriented toward the state of the art with the goal of achieving realistically tested and operational structural components.
Your tasks
-
production of CMCs (Ceramic Matrix Composites – fiber-reinforced ceramic composite structures) using common manufacturing methods (e.g., autoclave, RTM)
-
monitoring of samples as well as data collection and quality control during processing (e.g., porosity measurements)
-
optical investigations (SEM) of samples for microstructural characterization
-
experimental testing (tensile, bending, compression, etc.) on samples and components with different or varying fiber architectures
Your profile
-
completed academic degree (Master’s / Diploma from a university) in engineering sciences (e.g., materials science, aerospace engineering, mechanical engineering, physics), or other relevant fields of study
-
extensive research experience in the field of fiber-reinforced composites
-
completed PhD and/or peer-reviewed scientific publications
We look forward to getting to know you!
