The Galileo Competence Center in Oberpfaffenhofen is dedicated to the further development of satellite navigation, in particular the European Galileo and EGNOS systems. We work on system development in the field of satellite technology and high-precision time measurement. Our goal is to improve reliability and performance and to prepare new generations of systems. The “Systems Analysis and Evolution” department plays a crucial role in analysing current systems, planning future technologies, and participating in space missions to validate key components. We specialise in model-based systems engineering and software simulation for estimating and evaluating the performance parameters of existing and future systems.
What to Expect
The “System Development” group plays a central role in the technical design of space missions and terrestrial infrastructure, using model-based systems engineering (MBSE) for this purpose. Our goal is to integrate all development steps from initial conception to commissioning in a central digital data model. Linking the technical requirements with the elements of the digital system model is particularly important here. At the same time, we connect simulation environments to our data model. This enables us to verify requirements at an early stage and derive test cases for subsequent implementations.
Your tasks
- Independent development of new methods and software tools in the field of model-based systems engineering
- Management of project teams in research and development projects in the field of satellite navigation
- Technical coordination of system designs in the ground and space segments within the framework of research and development projects
- Analysis of mission requirements and implementation in technical specifications
- Development and application of formalized system models (e.g., SysML v2) throughout the entire development process
- Consolidation, definition, and implementation of system architecture, system design, and inter- and intrasystem interfaces, taking into account functional aspects and framework conditions
- Cross-project tasks such as publishing work results in an appropriate manner and, if necessary, supervising student (final) theses, organisational tasks, and supporting internal processes
Your Profile
- Completed scientific university degree (diploma/master's) in engineering (e.g., aerospace engineering, electrical engineering and information technology, computer engineering) or natural sciences (e.g., physics) or another degree program relevant to the position
- Knowledge of Python and/or another higher-level programming language
- Experience in handling development tasks in the areas of system design, systems engineering, and interface management
- Basic knowledge of model-based systems engineering (e.g., SysML v2 and appropriate tools) and requirements engineering
- Basic knowledge of technical risk analysis
- Good command of English (spoken and written) and German (spoken and written)
Remuneration depends on qualifications and job assignment up to pay grade 13 TVöD.
