For the operation of spacecraft, it is necessary to provide data exchange and communication between the spacecraft and the various elements of the ground segment, a task that is performed by the Communications & Ground Stations (KOB) organisational unit at the German Space Operations Centre (GSOC). The most important functions in the area of data transmission include the configuration, provision, maintenance and operation of the complete ground segment, including the antenna systems of the satellite ground station in Weilheim, the communication systems and the control center systems in Oberpfaffenhofen. Telemetry data (information from the spacecraft), command data (control data to the spacecraft) and tracking data (where is the satellite?) are transmitted via the antenna systems of the Weilheim satellite ground station and communication interfaces to external ground stations are operated at GSOC.

What to expect

You will assume the central role of System Engineer for the Integrated Management System of the astronautical ground segment. In close collaboration with the Ground Operations group, whose operational and system technical responsibility encompasses the ground segment for satellite and astronautical spaceflight projects, the focus of the position is on developing concepts for seamless operations and conducting routine operations of the Integrated Management System, which plays a central monitoring role in the astronautical ground segment. You will be integrated into a diverse project portfolio, which covers both satellite missions and astronautical spaceflight, as well as support for the LUNA Analogue facility.


Your tasks

  • design, development and system management for Integrated Management System for human spaceflight ground segment
  • design and development of ground segments for satellite and human spaceflight projects, including project management
  • cooperation and coordination with national and international partners

 

Your profile

  • completed scientific university degree (Master's/Diploma Uni) in engineering (for example in the fields of communications engineering, electrical engineering, computer science, systems engineering, physics) or other degree programmes relevant to the position
  • many years of professional experience in the field of space technology, satellite data processing, communications engineering or software development
  • in-depth specialised knowledge of database technology and Linux systems
  • knowledge of relevant communication protocols, in particular TCP/IP and web technologies (SOAP, SNMP, REST, XML technologies)
  • experience in software development and network monitoring systems
  • good knowledge of German (written and spoken)
  • very good knowledge of English (written and spoken)

 

Depending on qualifications and tasks assigned, remuneration will be up to pay group 14 TVöD Bund.
