DLR's Responsive Space Cluster Competence Centre (RSC³) in Trauen is a unique research facility in Germany that addresses in a holistic way the topic of Responsive Space. This exciting field of research deals with the question of how to respond faster, more flexibly and securely in space with the goal of increasing the overall resilience of critical infrastructures in space. To this end, innovative concepts and technologies are analyzed, developed and demonstrated at the RSC³.

This position is planned within a student job or internship. It can ideally be combined with a masters thesis.

 

Your tasks

  • outline different swarm concepts for the mission
  • find and process subsystem specification
  • dimension the specifications of the Attitude and Orbit Control System for different mission profiles and conduct the corresponding sensitivity analysis
  • compute and maintain system budgets (delta-v, pointing…)
  • trade-off analysis of driving performance requirements and specifications
  • program, run and troubleshoot necessary simulations (GMAT, Python)
  • report and present findings

 

Your profile

  • knowledge in mission analysis and systems engineering
  • knowledge in spacecraft subsystems including orbit analysis, propulsion, and guidance navigation and control
  • strong knowledge in a mission analysis tool such as GMAT (preferable) or STK
  • strong knowledge in programming (scripting) languages such as Python (preferable) or C++
  • knowledge in MS Office suit (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
