DLR's Responsive Space Cluster Competence Centre (RSC³) in Trauen is a unique research facility in Germany that addresses in a holistic way the topic of Responsive Space. This exciting field of research deals with the question of how to respond faster, more flexibly and securely in space with the goal of increasing the overall resilience of critical infrastructures in space. To this end, innovative concepts and technologies are analyzed, developed and demonstrated at the RSC³.
What to expect
The Launch Segment department at the Responsive Space Cluster Competence Centre carries out engine tests on the "Viererblock" test complex, among other things. A new thrust measurement table must be designed and constructed for future tests. For this reason, this student position is being advertised as a part of a Masters´s thesis, which includes the design, construction and testing of a thrust measuring table. The design is to be checked with the help of a meaningful FEM simulation.
This position can also be done as an internship, either instead of or in addition to the Master´s thesis.
Your tasks
- Literature review of existing thrust table concepts
- Creation of a list of requirements for the thrust table
- Evaluation of different measuring techniques
- Design/construction of the actual table
- Verification of the strength of the test table
Your profile
- Degree in a field related to aerospace (computer science, engineering or a comparable degree programme)
- Initial experience with CAD (ideally Catia V5) and FEM calculations (ANSYS)
- Good analytical thinking skills and a high degree of creativity
- Structured, independent way of working and good communication skills
Remuneration will be paid up to pay group 5 TVöD depending on qualifications and tasks assigned.
