The Institute of Low Carbon Industrial Processes at DLR (German Aerospace Center) expands the existing portfolio of DLR’s energy research and places a strong emphasis on the decarbonization of industrial processes. The focus lies on industries such as paper, brick production, automotive, steel, and food manufacturing, as well as the transformation of conventional coal-fired power plants into sustainable, low-carbon energy suppliers.

What to expect

The "Low-Carbon Reducing Agents" (LCR) department focuses on production processes with unavoidable, process-related emissions and researches new methods, such as iron production using renewably produced hydrogen. For this purpose, reactive CFD simulations are combined with experiments on our pilot-scale reactors to enable the most accurate predictions possible regarding reaction mechanisms and reactor operation.

Your tasks

  • Conducting kinetic analyses of gas-solid conversion processes to develop reaction mechanisms
  • Performing CFD simulations for thermochemical processes
  • Partial coordination of internal and external projects: coordinating work packages, as well as documentation and presentation tasks

Your profile

  • completed scientific university degree (Master’s or Diploma) in the natural sciences (e.g. physics, chemistry), in the field of engineering (e.g. process engineering, computational engineering), or other degree programs relevant to the position
  • strong knowledge of thermodynamics, kinetics, fluid dynamics
  • basic experiences in modelling multiphase and reactive flows
  • experience with CFD-software ( e.g. OpenFOAM, ANSYS Fluent)
  • business-level English skills

The remuneration is based on qualifications and assigned duties, up to pay grade 13 of the TVöD.

In the course of the application we ask for a complete curriculum vitae.
